Changes to the Patent Act and fees as of 1 June 2018
On 1 June 2018 changes to the Patent Act No. 17/1991 entered into force with Act No. 40/2018. The changes also entail changes to the Regulation on Fees No. 818/2016.

New Regulation on fees for patents, trade marks and designs
New Regulation no. 818/2016 on fees for patents, trademarks, designs, etc., has been adopted by the Minister of Industries and Commerce and will take effect on 1 January 2017.

Fees for patents, trademarks and designs - changes from 1 January 2017
On 1 January, Regulation no. 818/2016 on fees for patents, trademarks, designs, etc. will take effect.
The regulation, which was recently adopted by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, brings about changes in the fees for the services of the Icelandic Patent Office.

PPH co-operation with China extended until 2019
The Icelandic Patent Office and SIPO launched in 2014 a pilot PPH project between the two offices for a period of two years. The programme includes a two-way national PPH route and a one-way PCT-PPH route, namely, for Chinese applicants filing in Iceland.

New website and new logo
The new website of the Icelandic Patent Office has been launched. The new site features a new interface and has been built and designed with an emphasis on functionality and navigation to improve customers‘ access to information. The new site also features a responsive web design and is therefore compatible with tablets and smartphones and adapts to various screen sizes.
SPC applications – calculation of duration
On October 6 2015, the CJEU decided that Art. 13(1) in the SPC Regulation No. 469/2009 (comparable to Art. 13(1) in the SPC Regulation No. 1768/1992) is to be interpreted as meaning that the date of the first authorization to place the product on the market is the date on which notification of the decision granting marketing authorization was given to the addressee of the decision.
