Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH)
The Icelandic Patent Office is pleased to announce that on 6 January 2014, a total of 17 patent offices will be launched a Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH) arrangement for both national and PCT-PPH routes.
The aim of the co-operation is to further simplify the PPH process for applicants and coordinate the requirements set for accelerated examination.
The project is a pilot project, allowing applicants to request accelerated processing of a co-pending application at any of the participating offices acting as Offices of Later Examination (OLE), provided that one or more of the claims in the earlier application are indicated to be patentable in the latest office action by the Office of Earlier Examination (OEE).
The following offices participate in the GPPH pilot:
Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO)
Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO)
Finnish Patent and Registraion Office (PRH)
Hungarian (HIPO) Icelandic Patent Office (IPO)
Israel Patent Office (ILPO)
Japan Patent Office (JPO)
Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO)
Nordic Patent Institute (NPI)
Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO)
Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property (INPI)
Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent)
Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO)
Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV)
United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (IPO) United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Since both JPO and USPTO participate in the GPPH pilot, the GPPH takes over the previously made bilateral agreements between the two Offices and the IPO.
